How to create bootable USB pendrive to install Windows 7/8/8.1/10


The very common method to install Windows 7 or 8/8.1/10 in your system is by CD/DVD. If you don’t have CD or DVD, you can still install windows in your system by pendrive. Although there are a few people who prefer installing operating systems from flash drives for its faster speeds. Flash drivers are not only faster for transferring the data but also faster for installing the large software or OS like Windows 10,8.2 etc. Bootable Flash drivers are simply faster than your bootable DVD or CD. Creating bootable USB flash drive for installing Windows 10/7/8.1/8 is the cleanest and easiest way to make a bootable USB without errors. Just follow the steps below to create bootable USB drive which you can use to install Windows on your machine.

Booting of USB pen drive is a method to install windows in your system through pen drive. To boot the pen drive you will need .iso file of your windows that you want to install on your system. How to create bootable USB pendrive

Method 1

  1. Very first thing you will have to do is to download the Rufus tool or you can download from here.
  2. Now once the downloading is completed, install it in your computer and open it.
  3. After starting of software, insert your pendrive to your computer’s USB port.
  4. Now simply run the installed software. If you are having a UEFI system then you should select these optionsIn Partition scheme and target system type select — “MBR partition scheme for BIOS or UEFI computers “.create-bootable-usb-rufus
    Now go to next option File system and select — “NTFS”
    select Cluster size as “4096 bytes (Default)”
    In Check device for bad blocks select — “2 Passes”
  5. Now Tick on quick format option, after ticking quick format.
    Then tick on Create a bootable disk using.
    Now select ISO image
    Select your image file from your system
    Also tick on create an extended label and icon files.
  6. Now you are on the last step. Just hit the button “Start”. It will take few minutes to finish this process after finishing it your pen drive is ready for installing your OS. If you are not able to boot then you can follow the step given below.

How to create bootable USB pendrive

Method 2

In this method you will be using command prompt to boot. Windows 10 user won’t be able to use this method but yes Windows 7/8/8.1 user can do it in a few minutes.

  1. Simply navigate to search box in your system. And search for Command Prompt. Now run Command Prompt, by right-clicking on it and choosing Run as administrator.
  2. Once your cmd pop-up is opened, just type DISKPART and hit enter to run Run the Disk Management service.
  3. Now to see the available disk, just type the command LISTDISK and hit enter.
  4. Now you will be able to see a list of your connected drives on your PC. Your USB Flash drive should appear here also. Note down the disk number of your USB flash drive.
  5. Now to boot your USB flash drive, select your drive. To select just type command select disk [and the number of it without “[” “]”.create-bootable-usbYou can see how above steps has been followed
  6. To boot is properly you will need to clean the flash drive. To clean it, type in the word clean and hit Enter. It will delete all files.
  7. Now this is the important step for making bootable pendrive. Enter command create partition primary it will create partition in your pendrive. You will be welcomed by the message Diskpart succeed in creating the specified partition.
  8. Next choose the partition. Type in select partition 1 and hit Enter. After this to complete the process, type in active, so you can use it.
  9. Now all set to format your USB Drive. Enter this command format fs=32 and hit enter. You can able to see progress in percentage.
  10. Enter this command assign and hit enter, Then type exit for ending disk management program.
  11. Final step. Choose one of the Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 OS and copy the installation files on your USB.

Method 3 Using PC Repair Toolkit

  1. We are assuming you have ISO file, if not then we have mentioned the link above. Just download the Universal USB Installer from here.
  2. While installing the Universal USB installer, Place the Universal USB Installer in the same folder as the UBCD .iso file. create-bootable-usb-pendrive
